Who we are
The Computer Science in Modern Biology (CompSciBio) Workshop is a free summer workshop aimed at High School, Undergraduate, and Graduate students with varying levels of confidence in their computer and coding skills that want to gain experience to face their classes and research as they advance in their careers. Mainly focused on students at Miami University and surrounding High Schools, we aim to provide under-served communities and other persons within STEM an opportunity to fill fundamental gaps within the field.
Since 2019, this one-week workshop has been offered at Miami University, serving a growing community of students looking to improve their computer skills. With this workshop, we also try to tackle root issues that reduce retention in STEM, such as lack of feeling of belonging to the community, imposter’s syndrome, and the role of under-served communities in science. For this reason, along with the courses, several seminars and conversations with professionals from diverse fields in biology are offered to the students.
